Cain Velazquez goes to prison. Former two -time UFC heavyweight champion has been sentenced to five years of attempted murder and other accusations during a Monday hearing at the Santa Clara County Righteous Hall in San Jose, California, terminating a three -year saga that has been delayed in the courts many times.
The judge of the Supreme Court of Santa Clara Arthur Bocanegra was leading the case. The NBC Bay area first reported the sentence on Monday.
The 42-year-old Velazquez faced 10 charges of a crime arising from an incident in 2022, in which he allegedly participated in a high speed of 11 miles with Harry Gularte, who was accused of abuse of then Velazquez’s 4-year-old son of “repeatedly”. Speaking recently in the podcast of former teammate Kyle Kingsbury, Velazquez expressed remorse for his actions and accepted any punishment. Velazquez also said he had forgiven the Gulata family for what had happened; Gularte’s mother was managing kindergartens where the alleged violence happened.
“What I did wasn’t right,” Velazquez said. “I understand that.
“[But] The way I dealt with things was not the way to do it. We cannot put the law in our own hands. “
Velazquez (14-3) is one of the most accurate heavy weights of its era. He first seized the UFC heavyweight title in 2010 with a knockout from Brock Lesnar’s first round, after which he again won the belt again in 2012 with a victory for revenge over Jr. Dos Santos.
