Cain Velazquez goes to prison. Former two -time UFC heavyweight champion has been sentenced to five years of attempted murder and other accusations during a Monday hearing at the Santa Clara County Righteous Hall in San Jose, California, terminating a three -year saga that has been delayed in the courts many times.

The judge of the Supreme Court of Santa Clara Arthur Bocanegra was leading the case. The NBC Bay area first reported the sentence on Monday.

The 42-year-old Velazquez faced 10 charges of a crime arising from an incident in 2022, in which he allegedly participated in a high speed of 11 miles with Harry Gularte, who was accused of abuse of then Velazquez’s 4-year-old son of “repeatedly”. Velazquez fired several shots through his .40’s windshield windshield while chasing a gulart car, Gularte’s mother and Gulata, Paul Bender, which caused them not life -threatening beer’s injuries due to a wound to a firearm. Photos showing the Goularte truck lined with bullet holes were presented again before the court before Monday’s sentence.

The 10 accusations of Velazquez ranged from attempted murder, firing a motor vehicle or aircraft, a firearm attack, an attack with a deadly weapon, deliberately ejected a firearm from a vehicle and the transfer of a charged firearm with the intention of committing a crime.

Velazquez did not compete for all the accusations associated with his case. Prosecutors sought a 30 -year sentence for Velazquez’s life, while the defense hoped to reach time and probation. The statements of the impact of Velazquez, his wife and his 15-year-old daughter were presented before Monday’s production, according to local reports, with Velazquez’s daughter asks the court to allow the former UFC star to attend her high school football games. Harry Gularte and Gulata family were also read.

“My father has always been my biggest adherent. My father is why I’m strong as a person. He has the biggest heart,” said Velazquez’s daughter.

Velazquez’s verdict includes time service. The former champion spent nearly a year in freedom after the 2022 incident, as well as nearly two years in house arrest with an ankle monitor.

The local exit Kron4 reported that Bocanegra was emotional and “had tears in the eyes” until he was sentenced to Velazquez.

Gularte is currently expecting his own date of consideration on June 2, after he has pleaded guilty on one charge of ridiculous acts with a minor.

Velazquez’s family brought a separate civil case against the Gulata family and their business.

Speaking recently in the podcast of former teammate Kyle Kingsbury, Velazquez expressed remorse for his actions and accepted any punishment. Velazquez also said he had forgiven the Gulata family for what had happened; Gularte’s mother was managing kindergartens where the alleged violence happened.

“What I did wasn’t right,” Velazquez said. “I understand that.

“[But] The way I dealt with things was not the way to do it. We cannot put the law in our own hands. “

Velazquez (14-3) is one of the most accurate heavy weights of its era. He first seized the UFC heavyweight title in 2010 with a knockout from Brock Lesnar’s first round, after which he again won the belt again in 2012 with a victory for revenge over Jr. Dos Santos. A vigilant talent, whose career was a lasting snake of injuries, Velazquez defended his championship twice with victories over Antonio Silva and in a trilogy against Dos Santos before he was losing to 2015 by Factorio Verdum. Velazquez only struggles twice as much – once in 2016 and once in 2019 – before withdrawing entirely from MMA.

Velazquez then briefly pursued a professional struggle and even signed with WWE from 2019-20 before being released from his deal due to financial cuts during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Velazquez was expected to serve as a Dubai team manager for the Global Fight League debut season in 2025, along with his longtime coach at the American Academy of Kickboxing San Jose, Javier Mendes. This obviously will no longer happen in the light of the news on Monday.
