The mayor of Southern California said he wanted to remove the population of his homeless urban, “to give them the whole fentanyl they want,” a controversial comment that he doubles, saying that he supported a federal “purge” of homeless people.
Mayor of Lancaster R. Rex Paris, a Republican, made the comments during a meeting of the Municipal Council on February 25, when a resident questioned him about the city plan to deal with the homeless crisis by “applying” the homeless population in a single camp in an abandoned golf course near a residential neighborhood.
“What I want to do is give them a free fentanyl. That’s what I want to do,” Paris replied.
“I want to give them the whole fentanyl they want,” he repeated.

The mayor is now facing efforts to recall after his comments at the Municipal Council meeting, although he has collected only 6% of his goal out of 20,000 signatures. He has encountered past control over his controversial moves, including his decision to extend the mayoral conditions from two years to four.
“For too long, Mayor R. Rex Paris has prioritized the personal profit of the well -being of the residents. His administration is marked by mismanagement, controversial policies and disregard for transparency,” said a petition to withdraw.
“Lancaster deserves a leadership who listens, serves and lifts the community – not the one that separates and operates it,” he adds.
But Paris confirmed his position to want to give homeless people the illegal drug that kills thousands of Californians a year. He told Fox 11 on Friday that he had no regrets for his remarks and that he was referring to the criminals of homeless ones who “refuse” to seek help.

“I explained a lot that I was talking about the criminal element that was released from prisons, which have now become 40 to 45% of what is called a homeless population,” Paris said.
“They are responsible for most of our robberies, most of our rapes and at least half of our murders,” he continued. “There is nothing we can do for these people.”
The mayor did not provide information on archiving his allegations of the number of crimes for which homeless people are responsible.
Paris said he did not expect his comments to be accepted “literally”, saying at the exit that fentanyl was “so easy” to getting the streets that it would not matter if the city offers opioid homeless people for free.
The mayor strives to credit Lancaster to provide more innovative solutions to the homeless crisis compared to other cities in the United States and sailed the idea of federal “purge” to reduce the homeless population.
