Starting today, every passenger over the age of 18 must present a true driver’s license or ID identification card (or a valid passport or passport card) to get on a commercial aircraft in the United States.
If you do not have one, you will not go through the TSA control point. Here’s what you need to know.
What is real ID?

A true identification number is approved by federal driver’s license or identity card, which meets the new security standards adopted by Congress after September 11th. The deadline was pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2005, after the committee on September 11 recommended the Federal Government to set standards of identification, such as driving licenses, the Congress adopted the Law on the Real Identifier. The law has established minimal security standards for licensed all over the country and prohibit some federal agencies from accepting something less.
The Law on the Real Identifier entered into force throughout the country on May 11, 2008. Florida began to issue real ID -compatible identification data after January 4, 2010.
