After a British socialist, who has lived a life of luxury today, Ghislaine Maxwell is today imprisoned after being convicted of helping financier Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of minor girls.
Now, three years after she was convicted, the official US Department of Justice official plans to interview Maxwell personally to find out if there is information about anyone who has committed crimes against Epstein’s victims.
It is unclear what the Deputy General Prosecutor Todd Blanche can learn from the meeting. Maxwell has long claimed to be innocent and does not know that Epstein or someone else is sexually abusing teens.
Epstein committed suicide while waiting for a test in 2019, but his work generated endless attention and conspiracy theories because of his relationships and Maxwell with famous people, including Royals, presidents and billionaires.
In the past, President Donald Trump suggested that there was a concealment. His administration is now engaged in the fall after the Ministry of Justice initially announced two weeks ago that he would not release more evidence of the investigation of Epstein. Since then, the Department has changed the course at the insistence of Trump.
Who is Ghislaine Maxwell?
She grew up as the daughter of the late British billionaire Robert Maxwell, a former member of parliament, whose publishing empire included The Daily Mirror, one of the largest tabloid newspapers in the UK and the publisher of the book Macmila.
As a college student, she became a close friend with British Prince Andrew, who will later invite her to Royal Residens, including Windsor Castle.
But Maxwell’s family was broken from a scandal. After Robert Maxwell fell from his yacht and died in 1991, investigators accused him of appropriating huge sums of money from his companies’ pension funds.
Shortly after his father’s death, Ghislaine Maxwell was shot at a memorial sitting next to Epstein, an American money manager.
Maxwell met Epstein, but later became his employee, taking on various tasks, including hiring staff for his six homes.
How did Ghislaine maxwell help Epstein?
Some of Maxwell’s household duties included hiring a steady stream of young people to give massages to Epstein.
“As for me, everyone who came to his house were a professional adult person,” she said in a deposit nearly a decade ago.
But police and prosecutors said many of these “massages” are minor girls who have been paid for sexual acts.
Epstein was arrested in 2006 in Palm Beach, Florida, after numerous girls, including students from a local high school, spoke with police. But in the end, he pleaded guilty in 2008 on a single charge of buying a person under 18 for prostitution and served 13 months in prison.
Maxwell was not charged until 2021. Four women testified that Maxwell had raised them as teenagers to participate in sexual acts with Epstein and sometimes participated in abuse.
Maxwell’s attorneys say the memories of women were manipulated by lawyers who follow civil cases alleging discrepancies in their testimony.
The jurors condemned Maxwell for sexual traffic, conspiracy and transportation of a minor for illegal sexual activity.
Why do investigators want to talk to Maxwell now?
The request of the Ministry of Justice to talk to Maxwell is coming at a time when he is involved in a reaction from some of President Donald Trump’s supporters, some of whom believe that there was a cover for the government to protect Epstein’s rich and powerful friends involved in his crimes.
The ministry asked a judge last week to withdraw transcripts from the sessions of the big jury, which led to indictments against Epstein and Maxwell.
The Ministry of Justice said in a note that it had not revealed evidence to blame anyone else in connection with Epstein’s abuse. But Deputy Prosecutor General Todd Blanche said on social media that “if Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against casualties, the FBI and DOJ will hear what to say.”
He said he expected to meet Maxwell in the coming days.
Will he talk?
It remains to be seen. One of her lawyers David Oscar Marcus said on Tuesday that they were in discussion with the government.
“Ghislaine will always testify true,” he said in the statement.
Maxwell did not testify to his process, but years ago he gave two long deposits. She repeatedly said that one of the prosecutors of Epstein, who claims that he had transferred her to powerful men, including Prince Andrew, was a liar who made her story.
Where is Ghislaine maxwell now?
Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence and is currently in a low-security federal prison in Talahassi, Florida.
Its lawyers appealed the US Supreme Court after last fall a court has upheld its sentences.
