New York (AP) – President Donald Trump’s political weapon sent a letter calling on New York Prosecutor General James James to resign from the post “as an act of good faith” four days after he began his mortgage fraud investigation. Then he appeared in front of her house.
Ed Martin, the director of the Working Group for Weapons of the Ministry of Justice, told James’s lawyer on August 12 that the democrat would best serve the “good of the state and the nation” by resigning and terminating his study in alleged documents for her city house in Brooklyn and Virji’s House.
“Her resignation from office will give people from New York and America more peace than to continue,” Martin wrote. “I would accept this as an act of good faith.”
After that last Friday, Martin appeared in front of James Brooklyn’s city house at Columbbo-Trenchkova Coat, accompanied by an assistant and journalists from the New York Post. He did not meet James or enters the building. A writer of publications saw him tell a neighbor: “I’m just looking at houses, interesting houses. This is an important house.”
James Abbe Lowell’s lawyer shot Martin on Martin in a letter of a stupid request for James’ resignation, he denied the standards and codes for professional responsibility and legal ethics.
The Ministry of Justice “has firm policies against the use of investigations and against the use of prosecutorial power to achieve political goals,” Lowell wrote. “This is more and more the case when this request is made to seek political revenge against a civil servant in the opposite country.”
“Let me clear: this will not happen here,” Lowell added.
Lowel also blew up Martin’s visit to James’ home as “really fancy, made for a media stuntman,” and said it was “beyond the boundaries” of the rules of the Ministry of Justice. He included an image of footage from a security camera showing Martin in his coat, posing for a photo in front of James City House. He said that Martin looks as if he were on a “visit to a tourist attraction”.
The Associated Press received copies of the two letters on Tuesday. A message was left for Martin’s speaker. James’ office declined to comment.
The letters were the latest Salvos in a monthly drama, including Trump’s retaliation campaign against James and others who fought him in court and fought his policies.
James is suing the Republican president and his administration dozens of times and last year won a $ 454 million decision against Trump and his companies in a lawsuit claiming to have lied to the value of his assets under the financial statements given to the banks. The Court of Appeal has not yet ordered Trump’s proposal to annul this sentence.
Earlier this month, the AP reported, said the Ministry of Justice called on James for records related to the civil fraud process and a case, which she filed against the National Righteous Association.
Martin’s investigation stems from a letter from the Federal Agency for Housing Funding William Pulte, sent to Pam Bondi Prosecutor General in April, asking her to investigate and consider pursuing James, claiming that she “falsified bank documents and ownership records.”
Pulte, whose agency regulates mortgage financiers Fanny May and Freddie Mack, quoted “media reports”, claiming that James had falsely listed Virginia’s home as a major residence, and he suggested that she might be trying to avoid higher interest rates.
The records show that James was named as an associate of a house that her niece bought in 2023. Lowell said that records and correspondence could easily disprove Pulte’s claim.
While James signed a form of encroachment, which Lowell said “mistakenly stated that the property was Mrs. James’s main residence, she sent an email to her broker for a mortgage loan at about the same time, which became clear that the property” would not be my main residence “.
Pulte has also accused James of lying to real estate records for the number of apartments in the City House in Brooklyn, which he has owned since 2001.
An employment certificate issued to a previous owner allows up to five units in the building where James lives and has rented apartments. Other city records show that Townhouse has four units, a number that James has listed in applications for construction and mortgage permits.
On August 8, Bondi appointed Martin, a former Republican political operator to investigate. Martin, current US pardon lawyer and former US lawyer for Washington, Colombia, also investigates allegations of mortgage fraud against Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif. Schiff’s lawyer called the allegations “transparently false, stagnant and long -debunked.”
Lowell said it seems that the Martin Working Group is “appropriately called, as it” arm “the” Ministry of Justice “to make the threats of the President and the Prosecutor General.”
