Oregon University Faculty announces an intention to strike immediately after March 31

The University of Oregon can strike as soon as the spring term begins.

The Union of United Kingdom Academicians sent a press release on Monday, announcing that it intends to strike immediately after March 31. The strike will follow 13 months of negotiation and mediation after 92% of the participating faculty voted for strike.

“Our members and the negotiation team did not reach this decision easy, but the stubborn resistance of the university administration to a fair and reasonable treaty brought us to the edge of the strike,” said Uauo President Mike Urbanka.

Uauo announced a stalemate in February. During the 30-day cooling period UAUO and UO continue to meet in mediation.

The UAUO press release indicates that it will strike by prohibiting any progress at the last moment.

“We will continue to be ready to bargain in an attempt to reach a fair and reasonable contract,” Urbanka said.

“We appreciate our faculty and appreciate their contribution and share an commitment to the University of Oregon, our students and our future,” UO said by email. “UO is committed to contracting a contract that fairly compensates for the teachers, while guaranteeing long -term financial sustainability for the institution and its students. We appreciate the time and dedication that the leaders of United Academics and Members are making in the negotiation process. We have made progress.”

Latest Sales of the Faculty of UO’s Faculty

UO presented its latest salary proposal on February 25th. Uauo’s latest offer was March 7th. The largest discrepancy seems to be offered an increase in the ratification of a contract.

In addition, the two have offered new salaries, another area of incompatibility. UO offers an increase of 13.5% on all floors, creating a $ 50,000 career floor. UAUO offered a 33% increase in instruction professional floors and a 20% increase in all other salaries.

According to the human resources of UO, when corrected for retirement contributions, deductions of salaries for health insurance and living costs, the total compensation of the Faculty of UO is 98.3 percent of the average value of public peers of the Association of American Universities.

The UO salaries page also indicates the lack of state funding, especially compared to AAU peers. UO received $ 98 million in state funding compared to the $ 416.2 million average for AAU institutions.

“We have part -time teachers who can barely afford to live in Eugene,” Urbanka said. “Our members study tens of thousands of students every year, providing quality instructions, but we are not respectful.”

Uauo and Uo recently met in mediation sessions on March 3, 7 and 13. During these sessions, an orientation agreement was reached on the leave of the faculty. There is another mediation session set for Friday.

If it comes to it, it will be the first faculty in the history of UO. UAUO was established in 2012 and represents 1800 full -time and part -time teachers in UO.
