It seems that every few days the commercial flight does the news of something that went wrong, and it’s even before you report all the small, private plane crashes. The good news is that everyone got off the plane, with only one reporting an injury. The bad news is that an evacuation video showed that many passengers ignored the instructions as a crew member and grabbed their bags before leaving the plane.
This, my friends, is what we call “a bad idea” and it’s not just because you have to follow all the crew orders. You need to leave your bags on the plane during an emergency evacuation because it slows you down, and in turn extends how long it takes to remove everyone else from the aircraft. According to the federal aviation administration, commercial aircraft should be able to be fully evacuated in 90 seconds or less, but according to CnnThe evacuation of this American Airlines flight took 10 to 15 minutes. Yikes.
Fortunately, the brake fire that broke out as a result of the landing problem was not big enough to take the whole plane with you, but this is also not something you will know when the crew is ordering the airplane evacuation. Leaning to catch your bags does not make you selfish. This makes you danger to everyone else on the plane.

Leave everything behind you
The good news is, as you can see in the video above, not everyone on board ignored crew instructions. Some people did what they had been told and left their bags on board, but you can also see that it was not the case for too much of them. And even if you take more care of your bags than other people get off the plane safely, another lesson must be learned here. Getting off the emergency slider and landing gracefully on their feet at the bottom is not exactly guaranteed, but it seems that passengers carrying their bags had a lot more difficult to do than everyone else.

If the crew announces an emergency evacuation, just leave your bags. It will be fine and no bag is worth the risk of the life of someone else.
