Denver (KDVR) – The employees of the city and Denver County will see a dismissal notifications during the week of August 18, according to the mayor’s office, which quotes the budget woes.
“These are not easy days and these are not easy solutions,” Mayor Mike Johnston wrote to the city’s employees and a district in a letter sent on Tuesday. “Every role in this city matters and every person in these roles has contributed to our city in meaningful ways.”

The number of employees concerned is not shared. In May, the mayor’s office in Denver said the city staff would experience Fourley in a $ 50 million revenue difference and a deficit of $ 200 million. He also noted that the city had noticed a revenue growth by 0.3%, which was far below the previous 5% growth observed by the city before 2024.
“As I shared in March, the continuous slowdown in the economy, which we see at local and national level, has been deeply affected by the city’s budget and we have to build a budget that will fit into the revenue we have,” writes Johnston to the city’s employees on Tuesday.
Johnston said he was still committed to “protecting the basic urban services and providing the main priorities to residents, while preventing redundancies at any possible case.”
The announcement also follows a vote by the Denver Career Services Council to remove the senior dismissal system in favor of a merit -based approach. No cuts were announced at the time, but the workers gathered to decryg the then projected change in cuts.
Johnston said dismissal notifications would be made within a week, beginning on August 18th. Employees will have their last working day on the same day that they are notified of their dismissal, and then receive 30 calendar days on paid administrative leave. During this time, salaries and benefits will still be received, including the time fee.
The official date of the separation will be 31 calendar days after receiving the notification, the city said. The coverage of medical, dental and vision will continue until September 30 for divided employees.
The city announces packages for compensation for abbreviations in August
The city outlined compensation packages based on the service of employees with the city. The city also said the compensation would be in addition to the 30 days on paid administrative leave.

After the employees sign the compensation agreement, they will receive the payment within 14 days after their work has officially completed. Employees who are on trial or withdraw, as well as on -call employees, are not entitled to compensation, the city notes.

“In addition, the compensation package will also include a scholarship equal to one month from the share of medical insurance in the city,” the city said in its message. “This will allow each employee to maintain the healthcare coverage at least 60 days after notification of dismissal.
Other support for Denver employees during abbreviations
The city said the Department of Development of the Workforce of the Ministry of Economic Development and the opportunities created a team to support the transition to employment for the redundancies in Denver.
“This team will support the affected employees from the Day of the Separation, offering personalized support, job search opportunities and training, will help in providing unemployment and wellness and mental health resources,” Johnston writes.
