A woman who lost 130 pounds shares 7 changes she did not expect – from people who were more beautiful to her, to a tasting of food differently

  • Emma Roma Jane struggles with her weight until she received a bariatric operation in 2022.

  • She lost 130 pounds in two years and found some unexpected changes other than weight loss.

  • These changes include that her legs bend, they begin to like avocado and losing friends.

On a family trip in 2022, Emma Roma Jane was staying in the car while everyone else went to the beach. The thought of being in short pants in a public place, and having the body she was so uncertain about made her feel uncomfortable.

Roma Jane, a partnership manager and influence of Tiktok, based in Australia, has always fought with his weight. She tried to eat healthy, trying different diets and practicing “all the time”, but she did not lose weight.

After the beach trip, her mother told her enough.

“She was like,” It’s wrong. You’re 22. You have to enjoy your life and be able to go to the beach when you want and feel comfortable. “She suggested that I had to get weight loss surgery as she had,” Roma Jane told Business Insider.

So, in 2023, Roma Jane had Bariatric surgery, and her relationship with food and her body has been completely different since then.

“At first, I liked it a lot:” This is a cheating. You need to put hard work to lose weight. “But I looked at the weight loss surgery as a way I can stop the noise of food and then change my lifestyle because I did not want to spend the next 10 years still fighting the same problems,” she said.

She lost about 110 pounds a year after surgery. Now at the age of 24, she has lost another 22 pounds a year since then – and has maintained weight – making huge changes in lifestyle; She now works six times a week and eats high -protein, low carbohydrates, a balanced diet.

As Bariatric Surgery is becoming more and more common, for a recent study, weight loss is flourishing, as more people are prescribed medicines such as Ozmpic and Mounjaro to lose weight.

Weight Loss Surgery is the best decision I have made all my life, “said Roma Jane. “This has transformed my life completely.”

In addition to the obvious, Roma Jane noticed seven unexpected changes after weight loss.

People are more friendly

“There is no beating around the bush. I definitely treated differently when I was bigger,” Roma Jane said. “People were just not as friendly, but now they are so nice.”

She said that people keep her doors for her, greet her on the street, and start talking to her now, until she lost weight, she felt “invisible”.

Her legs became smaller

“One of the more observed changes that I didn’t even know was something that my legs curled up,” Roma Jane said.

She has four pairs of shoes, all in different sizes she bought when her legs got smaller when she lost weight.

Her legs are already thinner and she has switched from a shoe of 9 in the United States to 7.5.

A 2014 study published in the Turkish Surgery Journal found that 80% of 212 participants who have undergone Bariatric Surgery have purchased at least one size year after surgery. The researchers have suggested that this may be due to the loss of fat on the foot, and the arches increase after there is a less weight that pushes them down.

Her voice changed

Roma Jane also said her voice has increased and sounded more clearly after her surgery.

There is not much studies on the impact of weight loss on the voice. Several small, limited studies suggest that there may be small changes in people’s votes after Bariatric Surgery, but the differences are not noticeable enough to hear.

Her skin is clearer

Roma Jane had previously struggled with acne, but found her skin cleared when she lost weight.

She said she eats a low carbohydrate diet and cut sugar. According to the American Association of Dermatology, eating high glycemic foods that quickly grow your blood sugar-as white bread, potato chips, sweets and white rice-is associated with acne.

Roma Jane also has PCOS, of which acne is a symptom. The United Kingdom National Health Service said weight loss could improve PCOS symptoms.

Her tastes have changed

Roma Jane used avocado and now loved them. She also ate a lot of fruits, but now she eats far less fruits and far more vegetables.

A systematic review of research published in The Nutrition Journal in 2023 found that in 26 studies it seems that weight gain and obesity could change people’s perception of tastes and increase their sweetness preferences. However, the authors said these results were not adamant and that more research should be done.

She lost a few friendships

When Roma Jane weakened, she said she had dealt with “a lot of jealousy and resentment from friends.”

“I realized that they were my friends when I was bigger because I made them feel better for themselves,” she said. “But now that I’m on my own trip and improving and making these healthy changes, they suddenly had a problem with that.”

She is more adequate

“When I was bigger, I definitely used my size as a shield to protect myself from other people who know the real me. Now that I feel so more confident in myself and I have so much gratitude and love for myself,” said Roma Jane.

“I am the most confident version of myself that I have ever been and continue to become more and more confident every day.”

She said that bypassing herself with the right people also improved her confidence.
