“Your manager is experiencing more pain than you”

While employees without direct reports have escaped more stringent office return measures, this can be a painful change in policy for those in the corner office that would prefer to work from home. But that, says Tenev, is the whole meaning.

“If you are an individual associate and do the job, it is very nice to know that your manager is experiencing more pain than you,” Tenev said in an episode of Pint Podcast published on Wednesday.

This noted a change in the tone of Tenev, which in 2022 announced that Robinhood would be a remote company. However, he admits that this is a solution that he regrets “almost immediately”.

“Everyone said it was a one -way door, but it turns out to be a two -way door. You can turn almost anything,” he said.

Although they were away from work themselves, the bosses spent the bigger part of three years, passing away from the office attendance. In fact, 93% of CEOs say they do not enter the full -time office and instead accept flexible working models. Namely, Starbucks CEO Brian Nicole joined the coffee chain last summer as a remote worker. But this did not stop the technology giants from tightening their RTO policies. Microsoft has been reported to plan a tougher policy on RTO after letting most employees work remotely for 50% of time without approval. Other CEOs, like Amazon Andy Jassy, emphasized the importance of personal cooperation, arguing that it is essential to maintaining Amazon’s innovative culture.

“We have noticed that it is easier for our teammates to learn, model, practice and strengthen their culture; cooperation, brainstorming and inventing are more simple and more effective,” said Jassi in September 2024.
