Dresden woman convicted after sentences for a sexual battery

Zanesville – two months after her husband’s acquittal of the same incident, born in Dresden Ashton Whitney States, 37, was convicted of sexual assault.

She was sentenced to two years in prison when she went before the Muskingum County County Kelly Cottrill county judge on July 28, after being found guilty of three sexual battery charges, both third -degree crimes in May.

Ashton W. Stots stands in front of Judge Kelly Cotril on July 28th. She was found guilty of three sexual battery charges after a court hearing in May. She received two years in prison for sexual assault during a drunken meeting with three people in March 2024.

The incident happened in March 2024 with a victim of a woman.

The victim, who, according to the reports, darkened at one point and woke up back that they had been sexually attacked, she said in a statement of influence that had been read before the court.

“I thought I could trust her,” the victim said in her letter.

She then described in detail the nightmarish realities of living a life filled with fear, anxiety, instability and mental and emotional distress. Pursued by the incident, she said it cost her marriage, made her miss the family stages and created uncertainty about her current relationship.

Physical wounds have healed, she explained, but her heart and mind did not have.

“I don’t want this to anyone,” she said.

“Sexual assault is different from any other case,” said Assistant Prosecutor Michael Hughes, as he asked for a 15-year maximum sentence. “Sexual assault is different because they violate them as an autonomous human being.”

Stots and her lawyer Aaron Conrad demanded community control (or probation). He noted that this was an isolated incident and the hundreds was active in searching for therapy and remained sober after the event.

“This is certainly a very serious case,” Conrad said. “My client takes it very seriously.”

She had no other previous sentences or criminal record of all kinds and was a low risk of recidivism, he added.

Stots apologized for the sadness, confusion and discomfort it caused the victim.

“I wish I could come back. I deeply regret the events of March 4, 2024,” she told the court.

“I am usually not the one who goes through life reckless or careless,” she continued. “Tonight was not a reflection of the woman I am or the woman I strive to be.”

“This night is what you will be convicted of,” Kotril said to Stotts. “It was precipitated by your dangerous lifestyle, and now there is a victim.”

He acknowledged hundreds of sobriety, visiting weekly therapeutic sessions and a large maintenance system that submitted at least 29 letters on her behalf.

“This is a really difficult case,” Cotril added.

Sentation received three two -year sentences, which are executed simultaneously. She will be required to register as a level sex criminal after his release.

“After being convicted by jurors on three sexual battery charges, our office has requested a maximum sentence of 15 years. The Testor will only receive two years after failing to take responsibility is disappointing,” said Musgum Ron Welch District Prosecutor on July 28.

Stots received one day of the prison loan. It was previously held briefly in the Muskingum County Prison at a $ 100,000 bond.

Her husband, Wesley Stots, was acquitted of seven charges on May 21, including three rape, three sexual battery and one rough sexual imposition. Ashton was originally charged with the same seven charges.
