Cities and cities across the country expect to see No Kings Defiance rallies on Saturday as part of a national protest against the Trump administration.
The organizers behind the Kings Movement call the protests a reaction to the great military parade held in Washington, Colombia County, on Saturday in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States Army. It is estimated that the parade will cost about $ 45 million, potentially more, as the army has to pay for any damage that vehicles make on the streets.
President Trump, who will also celebrate his 79th birthday on Saturday, will be planned to speak at the parade, the stated goal of which is to “think about the rich history and heritage of service, sacrifice and dedication” of the US Army.
“Donald Trump wants tanks on the street and made for television a birthday domination display,” says his website. “No Thrones, no crowns, no kings.”
The group expects about 1,800 rallies to be held on Saturday, with the events planned in all 50 states, but not Washington, reporters said on Tuesday that anyone protesting against the army parade “will be welcomed with very great force.”
Here’s what to expect.
What is “without kings”?
“No Kings” is the name of organized protests planned to happen on June 14, not the name of a particular group. “No Kings is a national day of challenge,” the protest website said. “From the city blocks to small cities, from the footsteps of the Court of Justice to Community parks, we take action to reject authoritarianism.”
More than 180 progressive groups are listed on the website as partners who have helped organize upcoming events and have sent members to work with “local partners to provide peaceful and powerful actions” at certain places in the United States
The Kings without Kings were announced by the groups involved in early May, but recent events have led more people to join the movement. Ezra Levin, the CEO of Indivisible, one of the groups involved in organizing “No Kings”, talks with Rachel Maddow at MSNBC on Monday about how Trump’s reaction to immigration and the removal operations “do not have a mitten.”
“From those 1800 [‘No Kings’ protests]More than 100 of them have been added to the map since Trump has announced that he has been sending the National Guard to LA, “Madow told viewers.” If [Trump] I was hoping to make people not protest, it’s from behind. “
The No Kings website allows people to register and organize their own event if it is no longer happening.
A protest is not planned for Washington, Colombia County
Although there are protests throughout the country intentionally, nothing is organized for the Washington region, Colombia County for Saturday. Instead, the flagship March and the rally will be in Philadelphia, says the No Kings website.
“The real power is not placed in Washington. It rises everywhere else,” the organizers wrote. “On June 14, we show up everywhere [Trump] It’s not. “
Where are the “No Kings” protests on Saturday?
There is at least one protest planned in all 50 states, with very large cities expecting a multitude.
The time for the “No Kings” protest coincides with some of the activities scheduled for Saturday in Washington, the events in DC are expected to happen throughout the DC, starting from 8 am, to the parade of the 250th birthday of the army, which is planned to move from 18:30 to 9:30 pm.
