The theft of the Gucci bag was made two arrests belonging to DHS secretary Christie Nov.
The main suspect was arrested in Washington, Colombia County and is in custody, according to the US Secret Service. USSS said in a news message on Sunday night he made a second arrest in Miami over the theft. The agency said this “is believed to be a co -defendant.
The arrests came after the US secret service began an investigation to find the perpetrator who stole his bag while eating dinner with his family on Easter Sunday.
A spokesman for the Secret Service initially refused to comment on the arrest, but in a statement to CNN Sunday, the Washington Field Office special agent corresponding to Matt McCall said the main “defendant is a serial offender.”
“We have also found that this incident does not have a protective connection to the Secretary of November or its role as a secretary of internal security. The investigation reveals a suspected criminal activity, including potential devices and credit card fraud,” McCor said.
Many additional arrests are expected in a theft ring, which has recently turned to Washington, the Penn neighborhood of Penn, said a source of law enforcement, familiar with the investigation to CNN.
Nom thanked the secret service and immigration and the application of customs in the X publication on Sunday and described the main suspect as “a career criminal who has been illegal for years.”
“Unfortunately, so many families in this country have fallen victim to a crime, which is why President Trump is working every day to make America safe and to take these criminal aliens from our streets,” Novo writes.
As CNN reported earlier, footage of the incident at the Capital Burger restaurant in Washington, Colombia, they have shown that the suspect purposefully moves near Nov when he hired her Gucci bag near her feet, a second law source said.
The thief, dressed in dark clothing, sat on an empty table next to Nobody with his back turned to her and used his left leg to slide the bag away, the source said. He looked at the restaurant before he eventually took the bag, covering it with his jacket and leaving.
It wasn’t until November from the table that she realized that her bag was missing, the source said.
The elements inside the bag included a Louis Vuitton Clemence portfolio, a NOEM driver’s license, medicines, apartment switches, passport, access badge, makeup bag, blank checks and about $ 3,000 in cash, many sources said.
CNN addressed the Capital Burger, Darden Restaurant company, which did not respond to a request for a comment.
The secret service was inside the restaurant with NEME, which was dinner at a table with his family, according to a well -known source. The source did not specify how many agents accompanied in Nov or where they were inside the restaurant.
Commenting on the large sum of Cash Nom, she wore immediately after the incident, the DHS spokesman said: “Her whole family was in the city, including her children and grandchildren – she used the withdrawal to treat her family at dinner, activities and Easter gifts.”
Law enforcement experts have expressed fears as to whether the incident that includes a thief who comes close to a cabinet officer and then hides with her belongings may have been a security gap.
The secret service “will maintain the jurisdiction on the case and intends to present its findings to a federal court in coordination with the United States Prosecutor’s Office for Colombia County,” McCowul said.
This story was updated with a comment by DHS secretary Christie Nova and to reflect that there is a second arrest.
