Two people were killed and six others were injured in shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday in Talahasi, authorities said.
The shooting began around 11:50. During a press conference later that afternoon, authorities identified the suspect of shooter as a 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a student at the school.
Ikner was taken to a district hospital after being “neutralized” by authorities. Police also said his mother was a sheriff’s deputy at the Sheriff’s Sheriff’s office of Leon County and said Ikner used his mother’s weapon in the murder.
The mother of suspected Jessica Ikner has been an officer for more than 18 years and authorities have said she has done a “huge job” in her position.

“Her service for this community was exceptional,” said the sheriff of Leon Walt McNeil at the press conference. “Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, and it was one of the weapons found at the scene. And we continue this investigation how this weapon was used.”

The two who were killed were not FSU students, according to authorities.
The area is still considered an active crime scene and authorities believe the suspect acted alone.
“So at that moment there is no additional threat to our community,” said Talahasi police chief Lawrence Revell.
The university and authorities ask students, employees and teachers to call their loved ones if they are not already.
The FBI was able to send agents from its Tallahassee office to the stage quickly as they are located near the FSU campus. The TAMPA TAMPA service has also confirmed that they are on stage supporting law enforcement.

Jessica Ikner, the mother of the suspect, has served in the sheriff of Leon County for 18 years.
FSU canceled all classes by Friday and said that athletic events in Talahasi were canceled over the weekend.
Ben Vatesman, a sophomore studying information systems at FSU, had just completed a meeting with campus when he heard photos and had exploded.
Vitesman told Fox News Digital that the appointment for therapy is being held in the Thagard campus building near the Student Union. After leaving, he heard a pop -up noise as he walked on the campus.
“I went home and then this one man was like chasing another person,” the student recalls. “It seemed that they were both just like a running … and I decided they had a dispute between themselves.
“And then the man from the front was like,” Yo, there is some school shooting. Everyone went inside, “because we were right close to the library. And then I could say that it wasn’t joking. And then it’s when I and a bunch of neighboring students also start running.”
The sophomor said he had sheltered in the staff lounge before being accompanied by another place and was finally allowed to go home.
“It didn’t seem real to me. I felt like I was like introducing training for shooting at school.”
FSU student Cole Samors, who was in the Student Union, spoke to Fox News Digital about his experience.
“I received food in a pan and heard a group of girls saying something about a gun as soon as I heard the shots and immediately started running. I ran back to the union and as I was running, I heard more shots coming from the entrance to the Union,” he said.
Senator Ashley Moody, R-Fla, said her office was related to the FSU management about the situation.
“I pray for the safety of students, teachers and all participating first answers,” Moody wrote.
In addition, Senator Rick Scott, R-Fla., Said he prayed for the safety of all FSU and instructed students to follow the instructions of school staff.
President Donald Trump was informed of the situation and made a brief comment in the oval office. He said it was “terrible that such things happen.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said he was informed of the situation, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that the Bureau was in place of FSU.
“The FBI is in place of FSU. I am on the way to DC from our office in LA, but we are getting updates on the situation on the aircraft. We will update you as we learn more,” Bongino wrote in an X.

The FSU Tallahasese campus sits at 485.7 acres and the university has a total of 403 buildings. The student body is over 44,300 strongly, and the university has more than 16,000 employees, according to the school website.
